Artwork wanted whose subject matter deals with any aspect of politics: political candidates, political cartoons, political attitudes, the role that television and the internet played in the campaigns, gender and politics, political satire, sexuality and politics, feelings about politics, persuasion, humor, the power of the poster, the environment, the economy, past, and almost-past, and soon-to-be presidencies, the future of the country, the state, the city. All mediums including video, performance, and music are welcome.

Wed/Thurs January 14-15, 9am-5pm, or by appointment.
Exhibit runs through Saturday, January 24th.
Pick up Artwork Sunday/Monday, January 25-26, noon-5pm, or by appointment.
Fee
$5 entry fee per artwork, up to 3 artworks helps pay for the space.
Reception for the Artists
Saturday, January 17th, 2009, 5-8pm.
Bring your own bowl and spoon.
Soup
Soup will be created by artists and served the night of the opening. We are looking for artists to participate in making soup for this event. Their soups will also require innovative titles. A $5 donation gets visitors all-you-can eat soup and viewing of political art. Donations help raise money for Dinnerware community events, in small bites.
Tooley's on Congress
Artist Made Soups will be served all week at Tooley's on Congress as part of this exhibit, January 17-24th. $5/bowl w/ baguette.
Other Notes
-Work can be mailed in, but will not be returned, unless the artist picks it up.
-Work need not be framed. Hanging of the work will be salon style.
-Sales: Artist, 60%; Dinnerware 40%.
-Works must be original works of art.
-Beginning at 8pm, Guillermo Gomez Pena Performance Art installations will be at the "Historic Y", 300 E. University Ave. More details to follow.

VALLEY FEVER ARTS FESTIVAL
Announces Inaugural Festival of Visual and Performing Arts in Downtown Phoenix
Valley Fever is an all ages un-gated weekend Festival of the Arts with music, dance, poetry, interactive performance art, and theatrical performances on multiple stages and throughout the festival grounds at Heritage & Science Park in downtown Phoenix, AZ; visual arts studios on site and open-air workshops with participating artists and local arts educators to demonstrate art making and encourage arts practice by the public; temporary public art installations will be constructed before and during the Festival.
In addition to the ongoing stage and street performance, food booths provided by local restaurants will sell refreshments, and art and craft work will be for sale by juried artists. Valley Fever Arts Festival will present a special Festival-in-the-Festival: Tequilaaz! on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the Lath House at Heritage & Science Park.
Valley Fever will also provide programming for SMoCA Nights,
March 12 at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Arts.

All applicants will be screened by the Valley Fever Arts Festival 2009 Artists Committee.
The screening process will take into account technical and scheduling needs, diversity in performances, and record of previous performances. All 2009 applicants will be notified of their selection staus by January 20, 2009.
The Festival will feature visual artists doing demonstrations and giving classes during the weekend. We also welcome visual artists in all media to apply to become juried exhibiting artists.

PHOENIX FRINGE FESTIVAL PREPARES FOR EXCITING SECOND YEAR
PHOENIX, Ariz., -- The second annual Phoenix Fringe Festival invites theatre artists from around the world to participate in its upcoming celebration of innovative and alternative theatre. This year's event will take place March 27th- April 5, 2009, in the blooming arts scene of downtown Phoenix.
Earlier this year, the first-ever Phoenix Fringe Festival wowed Valley audiences with a diverse selection of cutting-edge performances. For 2009, the festival will build on the excitement and success of the first event by expanding to include several different venues and introducing a range of new participants, including international artists.
The festival is now accepting submissions from all theatre artists interested in participating in the 2009 Phoenix Fringe. Any work that connects with the festival's goal of showcasing experimental and alternative theatre is welcome. Opportunities are available for a wide and diverse range of productions.
Producing companies or individual artists may apply to participate in the festival. Artists may choose to perform an original production or an innovative take on an existing work. The Regular Application deadline is December 17, 2008, with an Early Bird deadline of November 10th. Artists will be notified of their acceptance status within 10 days of the deadline. The Phoenix Fringe Festival welcomes the support and participation of anyone interested in helping be part of its continued growth. The Phoenix Fringe is a fast-growing part of the city’s arts scene and seeks to involve anyone with an interest in alternative theatre. There are numerous opportunities for volunteers to assist in preparing and producing the event, and receive free tickets to festival shows in the process.

Phoenix Public Library Issues Call for Artists for 2009
Burton Barr Central Library is seeking submissions for exhibition in 2009 from artists for its @Central Gallery, located on the first floor at 1221 N. Central Ave. Proposals are being accepted from artists residing in Arizona, 18 years or older, and not currently represented by a gallery. Artists may submit up to 10 images on CD following the prospectus instructions. The submission fee is $15. Submissions must be postmarked or hand-delivered by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30. Artlink's 12th Annual Juried Exhibition
Artlink, AZ is now accepting submissions for its fall 2008 juried
exhibition featuring the works of professional artists residing in the
state of Arizona. The deadline for entries is October 24, 2008. (This
is a postmark deadline). This juried exhibition will be featured in
Phoenix City Hall from November 21 to November 26, 2008 and will
consist of original works in all two-dimensional media completed in the last three
years. The distinguished jurors selecting winning artwork include the new Curator
of Contemporary Art at Phoenix Art Museum, Dr. Sara Cochran, and a host of
local celebrities. The entry fee is $25 for members and $50 for non-members for
up to three entries.
Artists must be 21 years of age or older to be considered. Entry forms

Call to Artists: MACfest
Beginning October 4, Mesa Arts Center will host MACfest, a weekly open-air market with food, music, and artwork for sale by local artists from Mesa and beyond. Exhibition spaces are $15 per week and are available through the Mesa Arts Center Box Office at 480-644-6500 on a first come first serve basis. Spaces are going quickly with 41 sold in the first week. Artists can acquire their City of Mesa tax license for $50 by visiting http://www.cityofmesa.org/salestax/pdf/MACFest.pdf or calling Karen Rounsborg at 480-644-3359. Artists will need proof of the Mesa City Sales Tax number to initially sign up at the Mesa Arts Center Box Office. Arizona Commission on the Arts
The Arts Commission provides
Project Grants, General Operating Support Grants, Arts Learning

arts activities in urban centers and rural communities, preserve
the rich traditions of Arizona's ethnic communities, support
arts education and connect the arts to other areas of learning,

Tucson Pima Arts
Council (TPAC)
As the designated local arts
agency for the City of Tucson and Pima County, the Tucson
Pima Arts Council provides arts and cultural development services
through direct funding, technical assistance, and commissions
and contracts to artists and arts organizations and selective
special cultural project and cultural development studies
facilitation. Through Grants, Community Arts Development,
and Public Art Programs, the Arts Council encourages neighborhood,
youth and community involvement in the arts. It provides employment
opportunities for artists, and crucial support for arts organizations,
and it enhances education and promotes heritage-based artistic

Exchange, and Marketing and Organizational Development assistance

Council of Greater Phoenix
The Arts & Business Council of Greater Phoenix
(A&BC) links the vitality and expertise of the business

the volunteer match program known as Business Volunteers for
the Arts (BVA), the organization has grown to offer a broader
